Our Story
On a business trip to the United States almost 30 years ago, our company founder was served iced black tea at a business dinner. He enjoyed the tea very much, found that it paired well with his food, and he was pleasantly surprised to see so many other people drinking and enjoying the iced tea with their food as well.
Upon his return to Japan, he embarked on the mission of creating a bottled tea, with a ‘real tea’ taste, that paired well with all food. He wanted to avoid the necessity of added sugar, artificial ingredients or added preservatives that would mask the authentic taste of real brewed tea. The search for a great unsweetened tea began!
Seeking a refreshingly delicious tea with a boldly smooth taste that didn’t need any sweeteners required an amazing amount of research, travel and tea tasting! After traveling the world tasting many tea varieties, a black tea from the Indonesian island of Java was chosen, and thus Tejava, “Tea from Java” was born.
Tejava tea products were launched in the United States in the early 1990’s and to this day, every Tejava tea leaf is grown and harvested with meticulous standards and sourced from Java, Indonesia at Rainforest Alliance Certified farms.
Our award-winning black tea is not just refreshing, bold, smooth with a true-to-the-tea taste— it's a nine-time recipient of top honors at the Global Tea Championship™. We start by sourcing high-quality tea leaves from Rainforest Alliance Farms in Java, Indonesia and small-batch brew our tea for a consistently tea-luscious ready-to-drink tea. We do not add sugar or sweeteners because our tea does not need them. And, due to our unique and stringent manufacturing processes, we also do not use any added preservatives. What you get is a purely exceptional tasting tea.
