What is Tejava®?

Tejava® is the brand name for a line of ready-to-drink, always unsweetened, black tea products that are available in five flavors—Original Black, Lemon, Peach, Raspberry, and Pineapple Mango. Made entirely from high-quality tea leaves from the island of Java, Indonesia, brewed in small batches for ultimate lusciousness and unparalleled, true-to-the-tea taste, Tejava black tea products are a refreshing beverage choice for anytime of the day. What’s more, they do not include any added sugar or preservatives—perfect for anyone looking for a healthier beverage option.

What is the difference between Tejava® and Tejava Origins®?

Our flagship brand, Tejava®, is a line of unsweetened black tea products. Tejava Origins® is a sub-brand that was introduced when we expanded our reach beyond Indonesia to introduce tea varieties from around the world. This line currently consists of Hojicha and Oolong tea varieties.

Where are Tejava® tea products made?

Tejava® and Tejava Origins® tea products are small batch brewed and bottled at our production facility in Bakersfield, CA.

Where do the tea leaves used to make Tejava® tea products come from?

The tea leaves for Tejava® black tea products are sourced from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms in Java, Indonesia. Our tea leaves are picked at the height of the harvest season for optimal flavor. The tea leaves for the individual tea varieties in the Tejava Origins® product line vary. Tea leaves for the Hojicha green tea are sourced from Kagoshima, Japan and tea leaves for the Oolong tea are grown in China’s storied, mountainous, subtropical tea growing region.

How much caffeine is in Tejava® tea?

Tejava® black tea products contain 33 mg per 8oz serving. Tejava Origins® Hojicha tea contains 21 mg of caffeine per 8oz serving. Tejava Origins® Oolong tea contains 34 mg of caffeine per 8oz serving.

Where can I find the expiration date on your packaging?

Tejava® and Tejava Origins® tea products are best consumed before the “best by” date printed on the bottle: “BB MM/DD/YY". For both our glass and plastic bottles—the “best by” date is printed on the shoulder of the bottle. For the tea pods, the production date is printed on the bottom panel of the box and are best if brewed within two (2) years of production. For example, 4P234 09:15 means the production date was August, 21, 2024.

• The first digit “4” = 2024 = last digit of the manufacturing year
• The last three digits “234” = August 21 (number of days in the year > day of the year) = Julian date (days) of manufacture

Are there preservatives in Tejava® tea products?

Tejava® black tea products do not contain any added preservatives. Tejava Origins® products contain ascorbic acid to protect taste.

How do you add flavors without adding sweeteners in Tejava® black tea products?

Tejava® flavored black tea products use natural flavoring which is not sweetened. No sugar or sweeteners are added to Tejava® tea products.

Are Tejava® tea products gluten free?

Tejava® and Tejava Origins® tea products are made using tea leaves; we do not add gluten in any form. However, we do not claim gluten-free because we do not test for it. 

Are Tejava® tea products vegan?

There are no animal by-products in the production of Tejava® or Tejava Origins® tea products. However, we do not make a ‘vegan’ claim because we do not test or seek certification for this claim.

Are Tejava® tea products kosher?

Tejava® and Tejava Origins® ready-to-drink tea products are Orthodox Union certified kosher.

Is Tejava good for kids to drink?

We recommend consulting your pediatrician or dietitian for advice.

Why did you decide to make tea pods?

Single-serve brewers are popular, both at home and in offices. We saw an opportunity to provide our consumers with another convenient way to enjoy Tejava® tea products.

Why did you add plastic bottles?

In response to our consumers’ demand for a safe, on-the-go container, we introduced our BPA-free, PET plastic bottles in 2017.

Aren't plastic bottles bad for the environment?

Tejava® is committed to employing sustainable business practices. We currently manufacture our 500mL in 30% rPET which is 100% BPA-free, phthalate-free, and recyclable.

What is the Global Tea Championship?

The Global Tea Championship™ is an independent competition judged by tea professionals to distinguish the highest quality and best tasting teas available commercially. Tejava® is proud to hold nine top honors for our unsweetened black tea.
